kindle vs sony reader

ok, here's the deal:
i have owned (and dearly loved) a kindle since april of 2009, and seriously i have enjoyed every single second of it! unfortunately, i have access to the ebooks that are available for free through the nashville library. i <3 the library! anyways, for some reason, you cannot tranfer the epub & pdf files that are drm protected to the kindle, no matter which version you own. believe me, i tried to figure it out...a way doesn't exist.

so i had some gift cards and some extra christmas money that was burning a hole in my pocket...my great idea? why don't i buy one of the cheap sony readers (the $188 at walmart) version so i can carry my library books around with me?! so that's what i did... there are approx 50ish books right now available through my library that i want to read, so i figured, that would totally be worth it! so i went and bought a sony reader yesterday...and it's, eh, ok.

i still am in a full blown love affair with my kindle. why?
  • the kindle gives you 6 or 7 different text size options, when the sony only gives you small, medium and large. and even then, when you choose large, it only takes up half the screen...what's up with that?!
  • i know i'm just learning to navigate the sony, but it's definitely not as easy as the kindle.
  • no internet access
  • you have to actually attach the sony reader to your comp to get the books that you've purchased/downloaded, whereas the kindle is automatically sent or you can access amazon from the kindle directly.
  • the books are 95% the same price or way cheaper on amazon with the kindle - which is why i will most likely ONLY use the sony for the free ebooks fm the library
  • i wish the sony had a 'next page' button on the sides (both of them) like the kindle...instead it's on the bottom. this is not very treadmill condusive.
so i would totally recommend the kindle to anyone who needs any advice...i have not seen/used the barnes & noble nook yet, but i'm rebelling and i refuse to even try one...ha!
